I’m selective about the trends I get on board with. When it comes to my shopping philosophy, I will more often splurge on the timeless pieces (as I view it as a much better investment of my money) and look for the cheaper options for trendy styles. Style is enduring, but fashion is ever-changing; and there is so much turn-around with inventory in stores that it is truly difficult (and expensive) to keep up with every trend.

There are 2 current trends that I have to say I’m really NOT feeling, and I can’t wait till they’re on the decline: handbag pom poms (or “puffs”) and flare jeans! Who else is with me? I’m sorry to say it, but I think furry, little puffs remove sophistication from a beautiful handbag (they also remind me of the hand sanitizer bag clips – like, whoever thought that making hand sanitizer an accessory was a good idea?!), and I don’t think we need to revisit the 70s again with the bell-bottoms. But I digress.

For this post, I want to talk about a trend that I am totally in love with and seriously can’t get enough of: lace-up things. Give me all the lace-up things – lace-up tops and especially lace-up shoes!

I initially fell in love sometime around last summer, when I got my Steve Madden “Eleanorr” lace-up ghillie flats in taupe (I basically got them for free using a gift card to the mall I won for a best photo contest – score!). I lived in those babies throughout the end of the summer and fall, practically right up until there was snow on the ground!

I’m also loving lace-up tops! They’re totally feminine, without going overboard on the sexiness. I think they would make any girl feel fashionable and fierce at the same time.

For this look, I’ve kept it very simple, and I’m back in my favourite colour: black! I’ve paired my lace-up top with high(ish)-waisted black jeans, a grey cardigan with leather details on the sleeves, and leather over-the-knee boots.

This is also the debut of my new Saint Laurent black leather tote (a recent example of an investment-type, non-trendy purchase 😉 )
