Exploring Jamaica, the Home of All Right, with Air Transat

Just a couple weeks ago, the universe finally answered my call, and I was transported out of the dreary Canadian winter right onto the sunny shores of Jamaica, courtesy of Air Transat and Visit Jamaica! Jamaica is known as the “Home of All Right”, and boy, did that slogan ever hold true during what can only be described as a magical 5 days in the sun! This trip was the perfect getaway, and Jamaica is one of the best places you can go to escape winter. But outside of winter, there are so many unique things about this island that…

5 Reasons You Should Work with a Travel Photographer on Your Next Vacation

When you travel, do you: a) use a DSLR camera and professional lenses to capture your vacation photos, or b) rely on your good old smartphone camera (and possibly a selfie stick)? Whether you chose a) or b) (or maybe even both), I think you could benefit from working with a professional travel photographer for your next vacation, and I have 5 reasons why. Now, I consider myself to be a pretty competent photographer – I own a full frame DSLR camera, mirrorless camera, several lenses, a full-sized tripod, and a tabletop tripod, all of which allow me to capture…

Travel Guide: Why Mexico City Should be on Your Bucket List

How do I love thee, Mexico City? Let me count the ways! It’s the 4th largest city in the world with a population of over 21.3 million. It has over 40,000 restaurants, more than 600 hotels, 150 museums, 100 art galleries, and so much more. So, it’s not hard to see why, after visiting Mexico City for the first time, it instantly became one of my favourite cities in the world! My good friend and travel buddy, Solmaz K of The Curious Creature, and I spent 4 days and 4 nights in Mexico City at the end of November, 2017…

Travel Diary: Grand Velas Riviera Maya with Air Transat

A couple weeks ago, my husband and I returned from THE most luxurious resort vacation we’ve ever been on at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya thanks to Air Transat. As I sit here writing about what it was like to spend a week in paradise and looking at all of our photos, there is a blizzard happening outside my window and I’m thinking, “Why did we ever come back?!” Can I just sum up the entire trip in one word (AMAZING) and leave it at that? While that would be 100% accurate, I definitely have way more to say about…

Why “Vacation” Doesn’t Really Mean Time Off When You’re Self-Employed

One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to learn since starting to blog full-time is that vacation doesn’t really mean time off, when you’re self-employed. There is no such thing as truly unplugging, especially if most of your work is online. Unless you have a team of people or an intern working for you back at home (which I don’t), going away doesn’t mean you get a break from your business. You still have to be able to pay the bills when you get back, so you can’t just abandon ship! Out of office message? Guess what – IT DOESN’T…

How to Stay Active While on Vacation

If you’re anything like me, your idea of staying active while on vacation is walking to the buffet or pool bar! If I go on a resort vacation, the whole idea is to relax and enjoy paradise. It’s to relish in the bounty of food and drink that I wouldn’t otherwise have on a daily basis back home, like huevos rancheros for breakfast, Blue Hawaiians and Piña Coladas every hour, 24-hour room service…you get the idea. I’m also the type of person who likes to try everything on the menu. So, if there is basically unlimited food available at my…

Romantic Staycation at One King West

A few weeks ago, Alex and I celebrated our 3-month wedding anniversary (how time flies!). We got to spend it at one of our favourite hotels in Toronto: One King West. We have such a special connection to this hotel because it’s actually where I spent the night before our wedding and where Alex and I spent our first night as a married couple! We were invited back for a romantic staycation for 2 nights, and the timing of our return couldn’t have been more perfect. Can you believe, we were even put up in the exact same room that…

Guide to Ontario Lavender Fields

A bouquet of dried Lavender, could there be anything more fragrant and pretty? Yes, actually. How about ENTIRE FIELDS full of Lavender?! Rows and rows of the gorgeous purple plant in full bloom – it’s probably one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen, and a total Instagrammer’s paradise! It’s been on my bucket list for a while to visit the bountiful Lavender fields in Provence or England. But I never realized that we have so many Lavender fields right here in Ontario! I discovered that there are actually more than 20 Lavender fields within driving distance of Toronto!…

Travel Guide: New Hampshire Highlights in 3 Nights

I’m a city girl at heart. I love the frenetic energy and the convenience of having so many coffee shops and restaurants at your fingertips. When I travel, if I’m not heading to another major city, you can find me on the beach in some place exotic (as you can see from my last travel guide). But, I must admit, there are times when it’s nice to change up the pace and connect with nature – go somewhere where you can’t see directly into your neighbour’s house. A couple weeks ago, I was invited to visit the state of New…

Travel Guide: 4 Tips on How to do St. Barths on a Budget

Visiting St. Barths has been a dream of mine for many years. Call me an elitist, but maybe it has something to do with the fact that it’s one of the most exclusive places on earth, or there’s a Nikki Beach on the island (and it was once one of my lifetime goals to visit all the Nikki Beaches in the world). But let’s be honest. My fiancé and I aren’t made of money; and with a wedding on the horizon, we weren’t looking to set ourselves back. Despite the otherwise hefty price tag, it is possible to visit St….
